when you onboard a new vendor, vibecode a new tool, invest in a new company, hire a new employee ideally that thing should contribute more to the system it’s being added to than the value of it by itself.

i think it’s amazing when you invest in one of those things and the rest of the the system gets better

concretely you can hire someone that makes everyone else better or invest in a company in your portfolio that will make the other companies shine a little brighter cause they can leverage the capabilities of that just-added company

the goal is to get a 1 + 1 > 2

alternatively there are times when hiring that extra employee actually reduces velocity or drags the whole system down. that’s the worst scenario where 1 + 1 < 2

as far as thinking about this from a vibe-coded tools angle one thing to stress is that your tools have some interoperability with each other (maybe this translates to people too)
